The European Commission has launched a call for proposals worth €9 million. It is dedicated to fostering cross-border journalism aimed at young Europeans.
The program seeks to promote independent reporting on current affairs tailored for the younger demographic. It encourages collaborations between news media organizations and non-profit youth groups, fostering innovative approaches to engage and inform young Europeans. It provides an opportunity for news media organisations and non-profit (youth) organisations to launch ambitious, cross-border projects.
Věra Jourová, Vice-President for Values and Transparency, stressed the importance of reliable information in the digital age, stating, “We need to reach young people where they are, with new formats tailored for them.”
The selected projects are expected to amplify online information availability in at least five European languages, focusing on issues directly impacting the youth. The content will be presented in compelling formats, incorporating diverse voices to ensure a comprehensive portrayal of European perspectives. Projects should seek to generate engaging discussions and organise youth events.
The grant agreements will include a charter of independence to make sure that grantees are editorially-free and operate without any political interference.
Interested organizations are encouraged to submit their applications by 29 January 2024. Successful projects are anticipated to commence in the summer of 2024.
