€11 million to support cross-border media collaborations and independent media

The European Commission has launched a call for proposals under Creative Europe, providing €11 million to support journalism partnerships.

€6 million is allocated to foster cross-border media collaborations, aiming to boost innovative business models and journalistic projects. Eligible consortia include non-profit, public, and private media outlets, as well as media associations and NGOs. The objective is to advance media transformation, credible reporting, and the skills of news media professionals. Each project will be granted maximum EUR 2 million.

The remaining €5 million is dedicated news media sectors that are relevant to democratic debate and citizens’ participation. Offering support to crucial news media sectors, local and regional media, community media, and investigative journalism. Media associations, NGOs, civil society organizations, research centers, and universities are encouraged to apply as intermediaries for these funds, focusing on uplifting vulnerable media sectors.

The application deadline is February 14 2024, with projects expected to commence later that year.
