New Horizon Europe Funding Boosts Research in Data, Computing, and AI Technologies

European Union has unveiled a funding initiative under the 2023-2024 Horizon Europe Digital, Industry, and Space work programme.

A staggering €290 million has been allocated to propel innovation in data, computing, and artificial intelligence (AI).

A notable portion of the funds, amounting to €85 million, is earmarked for research in data and computing technologies, with a focus on fostering bias-free AI systems and services.

Additionally, €206 million will finance research projects aimed at enhancing Europe’s digital and technological competitiveness, aligning with the objectives of the European Green Deal.

  • – €60 million will be dedicated to AI and data solutions supporting the Green Deal’s objectives, particularly in optimizing energy and resources within production value chains using robotics data and AI.
  • €76 million will be invested in research spanning AI, data, and robotics, targeting the integration of robots into everyday settings for non-repetitive tasks, facilitating the broader integration of robots in industry and society. The funding will also support projects utilizing AI and data to expedite software development, ensuring security and compatibility across different devices.
  • €70 million will fund diverse projects, including the development of cloud-to-edge servers for a comprehensive European open cloud and edge computing architecture. Other initiatives involve integrating two-dimensional materials into semiconductor technologies and advancing quantum sensing technologies for market readiness.
