Horizon Europe: €112 Million investment fuels AI and quantum breakthroughs

The European Commission has taken a significant stride forward in its commitment to fostering innovation and research in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and quantum technologies. With an investment totaling €112 million under Horizon Europe’s 2023-2024 digital, industrial, and space work programme, the Commission aims to propel Europe to the forefront of these transformative fields.

A substantial portion of this investment, over €65 million, is earmarked for AI research. Additionally, €15 million will be dedicated to enhancing the reliability and transparency of AI systems, aligning with the human-centric approach outlined in the AI Act.

Quantum technologies will receive a substantial boost of €40 million. This investment includes €25 million for establishing a pan-European network of quantum gravimeters, facilitating high-precision gravity measurements vital for sectors like Earth observation and civil engineering.

Moreover, €15 million will foster transnational collaboration in next-generation quantum technologies, ensuring the EU maintains its competitive edge in this global race.

Lastly, €7.5 million will support projects centered on European values and promoting people-centric digital transformation, further amplifying the EU’s influence in global ICT standardization efforts.
